AS A MOTHER....
I feel so proud when my 3 year old tells me "this song makes me feel happy" or " I am feeling frustrated", and my 5 year tells me he felt overwhelmed when performing in a school concert, and in the first day of Kindergarten "I am feeling scared, but I'm choosing to be brave about it". I believe that for children to be able to identify, understand and express their feelings in healthy ways can only benefit any relationships they have as they grow (as well as dealing with life's many wonderful and challenging experiences).

AS A HEALTH EDCUATOR....
It's more than the standard "happy, sad, scared, angry" and it's definitely not about telling your children to stop crying when they fall over and hurt themselves. It is about acknowledging that children (and adults) have a range of complex feelings and that all of these are normal and okay. Let's just learn to deal with them in healthy ways.

Giving your child the ability to understand and accept theirs (and others) feelings is really important. Developing Emotional Intelligence and the ability to comfortably express, identify and manage feelings in a healthy and non-destructive way, is possibly one the greatest gifts you can give your child.
