AS A MOTHER....
Knowing that as many as 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys experience some form of sexual abuse before they are 18 (usually by someone well known to them) has inspired me to do whatever I can to protect my children and their innocence. I believe to do this I need to teach them about different types of touch, to trust their instincts about what feels right and comfortable, help them develop of strong sense of self and maintain strong, healthy and open communication with each of them.

We often talk about the different kinds of touches and what they mean to us, but more than that, I feel really strongly about trusting my children, even at 3 and 5 years to make their own decisions about who they show affection to. They need to know I trust an respect their instincts about what they feel comfortable with in terms of their own bodies.

AS A HEALTH EDUCATOR....
We need to start listening. Through simple yet eloquent storybooks and other engaging activities children can learn about loving touch, good touch and bad touch how to identify them. Being able to work together to create the “The People I Trust & Me Album” allows children to create something special, and gives adults the opportunity to listen to and talk to children about relationships and trust.

The Mini Me CD in theusefulbox 2 to 4 age group has a fantastic range of really fun songs for the little ones, and the Straight Talk Cards in the 5 to 8 age group, are a simple yet extremely powerful tool to open the doors of communication. Both can be used many times over!
