About Us

Hi, I am the founder of theusefulbox, a Health Educator with over 10 years experience in the Community Sector and a mum of 2. The Useful Box evolved from a desire to find resources during particular moments in our lives, such as "I'm Coming Dad!" and "Here Comes No.2!", and not being able to find grouped resources to help with the transitions (also a time when I really wanted someone else to have done all the ground work).

Anyway almost 6 years later, I have finally found the time to make it come to fruition. I hope you find it useful.

As a mum, I am not the perfect parent and my children are not the perfect children. The idea for using these resources is to give your child some skills to deal with an "imperfect world" and "imperfect people" in a confident manner and with strong sense of themselves and their own strengths and skills.

Buying Australian

I have spent many, many hours searching and reading to source theusefulbox items, and am really happy with the final range of products and their quality. Being and Australian based business, Where possible and with intention, I have bought from Australian suppliers. However, as some of the issues I am focusing on are still not that commonly talked about, especially with really young children, I found quite a few gaps in the market in terms of "buying Australian". As a result I have also sourced some resources from America (mostly from small obscure publishers, with simple publications but wonderful content).

Environmentally Conscious

Where possible we have also used recyclable products in theusefulboxes as we really believe we need to protect our kids and their future. The Boxes are made from recycled cardboard, and the plastic bags inside are recyclable products. The protective padding inside the Useful Boxes to protect your resources are also either shredded paper or water soluble foam.

Using your Useful Box
